I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody… Bill Cosby

Growing your Own – Golfers of the Future!!!

The Annual David Dixon FREE Charity Golf Tournament and Clinic for young golfers was held again this year at the Southaven Golf and Recreation Center located at Stateline Road and Swinnea Road.

The Tournament activities was hosted by the City of Southaven and played on their very own 9 hole golf course located at the Southaven Golf Center Complex.

A special thanks to all city directors and employees for sponsorship, funds, trophies, food and special maintenance required to make the tournament a success; Including Mayor Greg Davis, Mike Mullins - Parks Director, Tim Grommersch – Assistant Parks Director and Fletcher Couch – Maintenance Superintendent.

A special thanks to the local foot soldiers with the laborious task of keeping the onsite activities on time, on track and together without fist fights between contestants, workers, moms and dads and a gang of wannabe golfers. It was Wow… Wow… Wow, all day long, so thanks again to Al Eure, Werner Lang, Jennifer Rowe and Rick Logan.

The real star however, turned out to be Jennifer. She kept getting pushed to the forefront with a bullhorn in her hand (usually it was a yell and whistle) and just automatically somehow got everybody to the starting line at their respective Tee times amazingly without injury to herself. See pictures below. She ain’t big as some of the contestants. Well, maybe one of them.

The ‘One of Them’ being a little “Tiger” wannabe golfer. I guarantee you he is not much taller than your knees. But, he was well dressed, hat, golfin’ outfit and little clubs that looked like a full size set sawed in half. See pictures below. He even waved and smiled for the cameras as each group passed by.

Oh yeah, there were many more. A bunch... All the way up to big high school golfers that already looked like professionals. Played golf as well (as some pros) also.

The pictures tell the story. Have a look for yourself. Start early for next year and practice, practice, practice. Call David Dixon or the Southaven Golf Center for next year’s tournament details. Sorry the names of the contestants were not released to me therefore I cannot publish the names. However, the pictures are worth a thousand words. Enjoy!!! David Dixon's contact info is listed at the bottom of the Golf Gallery Page. (click here.) See Him in Action! He Is Good...

Enjoy the pictures and next year bring the whole family. It was great fun!!!
